Wildflower Watercolor: The Beginner’s Guide to Painting Beautiful Florals

As I try to improve my loose watercolor florals, I felt the need to have another book that gives great illustrations and step by step on how to paint them. Since I already have another book on painting bigger flowers, I wanted something a little different. I came across Sushma Hegde‘s new book, and spent the week painting the projects from it. If you are new to painting loose watercolor florals, please read this Wildflower Watercolor book review so you know what you are getting. 🙂

The artworks in this book are stunning. As much as I liked Christin Stapff’s book when I first started out, I prefer Sushma Hegde’s style.

Composition

I am not yet skilled in painting loose florals or composing the elements in a painting yet, so please excuse the imperfect artworks I did from the book. Since I used to draw realistic portraits, I find loose florals challenging!

At the end of the book, there are two pages on floral composition. The tips are very helpful and I find that I understood it better than from other books I have. In addition, there is a project at the end which you paint a bouquet following the step by step instruction. I find it very useful to put the composition tips into action.

Overall Review of Wildflower Watercolor Book

I appreciate not having too many pages on basic colour mixing and introduction to paints and brushes in Wildflower Watercolor. It educates well, building skills from project to project, while utilizing all the techniques shown in the beginning. It is a well-written book on loose watercolour florals and the illustrations are beautiful. If you enjoy painting florals and don’t yet own a book on wildflowers, I highly recommend this one!
