This is the first time I have made easel cards. When I bought the Stamping Bella Flowery Gnome rubber stamp, I thought it was best suited for them. If you are intimidated by using a different fold, don’t be! It is quite easy, and makes card-crafting a little more fun than the same old, same old! 🙂
Gnome Bookmark
One of the cards is going to a dear friend who is recovering from a life changing health problem. I decided to make a bookmark to go with the card. I used the Marianne Design Creatables Tomte Gnome dies to make the gnome for the bookmark, and stamped some fairy tale flowers from Nellie’s Choice as the background. You can use any flowery stamps to create the background, by the way. I used Stampin’ Up ink pad in Coastal Cabana on light turquoise cardstock for a tone on tone colour coordinating effect.
To finish off the gnome bookmark, I added some butterfly gems and ribbon from Stampin’ Up (both discontinued). The Audrey Hepburn quote was part of the Spellbinders Spring Quote stamp set. It’s a great stamp set, by the way, if you love going beyond regular sentiments.
Stamping Bella Flowery Gnome Easel Cards
For the easel cards, I added some layers, including a patterned paper right under the gnome image for each of the cards. To create a stop for each easel card, I die cut and stamped two different sentiments.
For even more texture, I used Stampin’ Up Garden Trellis embossing folder (discontinued) on purple cardstock. You can add any amount of layers as you like. The stamped image on the left is missing a purple flower, which was by design because the ink somehow smeared as I coloured the image and I was too lazy to redo the whole thing. 😛
Making The Easels
For the Get Well card, the easel is more upright. This can be adjusted by placing the raised sentiment differently. You have to use dimensional adhesive foam on the sentiment in order to create the easel stand.
By the way, you can create an easel card by simply scoring the card front in half and taping only the bottom half of the image to the card base. Here is a great template you can use and adjust your layers and frames accordingly.
Since I can see the back of that embossed cardstock, I taped a piece of cardstock on its back before gluing the bottom half to the card front.
For this second card, I placed the sentiment a bit lower on the card so the easel is not as upright.
In conclusion, easel cards are rather fun to make. Furthermore, I do love that they display beautifully.
