Hi friends! I purchased Etchr Lab Mystery Pack Collector’s Drop back in August, and just received it today. It’s my very first mystery pack from Etchr Lab, and the most expensive item I have purchased for review to date. So far, I have only seen one unboxing of this edition on youtube, and because no two packs are alike, I was hoping I got something different. So, did I get a dud? Let’s find out!
Etchr Lab Mystery Packs and Boxes
If you are into watercolour, you probably knew Etchr Lab. It’s an Australian company best known for its 100% cotton watercolour sketchbooks. The products are made in China, but designed in Australia. I have a few of their sketchbooks (regular and signature lines) and enjoy them very much.
Their products are on the pricey side (similar palettes and travel sets go for much less at Temu, Aliexpress, etc.), but I personally do like them, enough to spend CAD$169 on this mystery pack. Since I missed out on their mystery boxes earlier in the year, I didn’t hesitate when I saw this Collector’s Drop edition mystery pack.
Unlike the unboxing videos on youtube or TikTok, I decided to just do a blog post, because when I watched those unboxing videos all I care about is seeing the whole set laid out so I know what I am getting. 😛 So, without further ado, let’s see what’s inside!
Unboxing Etchr Lab Mystery Pack *SPOILER ALERT*
You are about to see what’s inside this Etchr Lab Mystery Pack: Collector’s Drop, so if you don’t want to spoil the surprise, stop now. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! 😉

I got five items in my pack. The moment I saw the Llamated Edition Sketchbook with Arches paper, I literally squealed in delight. That alone retails for CAD$105.

I also got the accordion sketchbook, which retails for CAD$27.00. It is hot pressed, and small size, which I don’t have, so I am happy to try it out!

Since I started getting into gouache, I am so excited to get a set of gouache brushes. The unboxing video I saw had a set of travel watercolour brushes, but I prefer to have the gouache set, so another nice surprise for me! This brush set retails for CAD$79.
Plein Air Essentials
The two remaining items are travel/plein air essentials. The Pocket Palette Travel Set is an item exclusive to this Collector’s Drop, which contains 7 half pan containers, 2 mixing wells in a magnetic clam shell case. Etchr Lab sells one just like this in white and it retails for CAD$84. The tangerine colour is exclusive to this mystery pack.
The shape and size of this reminds me of my daughter’s retainer case! 😛

Even though I am not a landscape painter or do plein air, this is still really nice to have. I wouldn’t pay full price for this for sure, but considering the other items in this mystery pack, it’s still good value.

Lastly, I’ve got the Etchr Lab Field Case, which has a CAD$114 value. It’s thick and well made, but again, I wouldn’t pay full price for it. Still, it is a nice item to have in the mystery pack.
Worth It?
Let’s do the math. The 5 items have a combined value of CAD$409, and the price of the mystery pack is CAD$169 including shipping, taxes, duties, and a 90-day subscription to Etchr studio classes online. I know, you probably think some of the items are not worth their full prices, but the 7″x7″ sketchbook with Arches paper (and deckle edges) alone is worth at least half of the pack. If you love watercolour and/or do plein air, I think this is a fantastic mystery pack.
By the way, the customer service at Etchr Lab is top notched. I must say, they are probably the best customer service reps I have ever dealt with.
Hope you enjoyed this written version of unboxing the Etchr Mystery Pack. If you bought one, what did you get? Will you be buying the next drop? Do share!
