Hotel del Luna is my all time favourite show and I am currently watching it a second time. One of the scenes and songs that particularly touched me was when IU sang “Our Happy Ending”. I cried just as much as I watched it the first time!

Painting Hotel del Luna Scene
Step 1: Background
First, I painted the background with Van Dyke Brown, Burned Sienna, Burnt Brown and Ivory Black. In addition, I sprinkled a bit of sea salt on the left to give the painting a bit of texture.
Step 2: The Flesh
On IU (left): diluted mix of Cadmium Yellow Medium and Rose Red
On Yeo Jin-Goo: diluted mix of Cadmium Yellow Medium, Rose Red and a touch of Olive Green
I put down the base layer of the skin, let dry, and did another layer.
Then, I started to paint the features and shading. I also went back to smooth out the shading of the flesh with a bit of water.
At this point, I also painted the golden highlights of IU’s hair with a bit of Yellow Ochre and Burned Sienna.
Step 3: Painting Hair
After step 2 is dry, I started painting IU’s hair. It will take multiple layers and varying shades of Burned Sienna, Burnt Brown and Van Dyke Brown. I mixed a bit of Ivory Black with Van Dyke Brown for the darkest values.
On Jin-Goo’s hair I started by painting a light value of Burnt Brown, let dry and build up the layers with darker values of browns.
While I waited for Jin-Goo’s hair to dry, I started painting IU’s shirt with diluted Indigo. Where the golden lighting hit, I added a bit of Yellow Ochre on her sleeve.
Step 4: Chan Sung’s “Poop coloured” Suit 😛
In this step, I painted Gu Chan-Sung’s poop-coloured suit with Van Dyke Brown and Burnt Brown, and added Coal Black for the darkest values. Since I painted on both sides of this paper, it was warping and freeing itself from my painter’s tape! LOL
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Finally, I added a bit more values to the shading and any finishing touches to my Hotel del Luna painting.
