Materials and Pricing

All artwork will be shipped in cardboard backed mailers for protection. I always throw in some extra goodies! 🙂

As a small business per Canadian tax regulations, I do not collect sales taxes, so the prices listed below are what you will pay with no extra fees added unless levied by the postal service in your own country outside of Canada.

Pastels Portraits

All pastel artwork will be done with soft pastels. I use only professional and lightfast pastels such as PanPastel, Sennelier and Rembrandt for commissioned pieces. Finished artwork will be sealed with a protective coating and on archival, acid free paper.

Watercolour Portraits

I use professional quality paints that are lightfast on archival, acid free and 100% cotton paper. A protective coating of wax can be applied to finished painting upon request at no extra charge.

Tips On Getting A Good Commissioned Portrait

Reference Photo Is The Key to a Good Portrait!

I had this early on and it scarred me so badly I stopped doing commissioned pieces for a long time. Too often, people send me blurry photos and expect their portraits to be like the celebrity portraits I showcased on my blog. It simply cannot be done! If you want a good portrait, the artist needs a clear reference photo. Here are some tips:

  • Send a high resolution, larger size photo (preferably at least 1000 px in length and width) with no filters. If you blur everything, your portrait will be as unrealistic as your filtered picture.
  • No copyrighted photos for legal reasons.
  • No overexposed photos. A picture with good lighting is preferred.

Communicate What You Want in Your Portrait

I can do a straight up portrait exactly like your reference photo, or I can make your portrait my own. For example, I do pet portraits that are not straight out of the photo. I can add flowers or paint in a galaxy style like the ones above. Let me know what you want and I will do my best to make it happen.
